RRR is a spectacle of action and drama that attempts to rewrite history with its two legendary revolutionaries. While it succeeds in delivering grand visuals, the film occasionally gets bogged down by its length and pacing.

A Historical Action Epic

Set in the 1920s, RRR follows the intertwined lives of two legendary revolutionaries, Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju, before they embark on their fight against the British Empire. The film takes viewers through their personal struggles, friendships, and eventual awakenings as they unite in a common cause for liberation. It's a story of sacrifice, patriotism, and the bonds of friendship, interspersed with thrilling action sequences and emotional beats that highlight their journeys. However, some of the narrative feels more like filler than essential storytelling, which detracts from its overall impact.

Strong Leads, Weak Support

N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan deliver strong performances as the leads, each embodying their characters with charisma and intensity. However, the supporting cast, including Olivia Morris and Alison Doody, often feels underutilized, and their character arcs suffer from lack of development. Ray Stevenson, while effective as the antagonist, sometimes leans into caricature, which weakens the film's otherwise serious tone. The chemistry between the two protagonists shines through, especially in moments of camaraderie, but the film could have benefited from deeper exploration of secondary characters that populate this historical fiction.

Visually Ambitious Yet Flawed

S. S. Rajamouli's direction is grand and ambitious, marked by sweeping cinematography and impressive action sequences that showcase a lavish production design. The visual effects are often eye-catching, although they occasionally stray into the territory of overindulgence, particularly in the film’s CGI-heavy moments. The pacing, especially in the second act, tends to drag, with scenes that stretch longer than necessary, which can sap the excitement. The film did well in capturing the emotional weight of certain moments, but a tighter edit could have elevated the overall experience significantly.

Excitement with a Side of Boredom

Watching RRR evokes a mix of exhilaration and frustration. The film's emotional moments hit hard, especially during sequences of sacrifice and camaraderie, yet there are stretches where it feels like it’s meandering rather than progressing. At nearly three hours, the runtime is a challenge, and some scenes seem to serve little purpose other than to showcase spectacle. This leads to a sense of disconnect during slower moments, taking away some of the emotional investment one might have with the characters. It’s a ride that has its highs but struggles with pacing.
